Event Details:
Since many consultants have to either provide data and voice
wiring as part of their services, or must work in conjunction
with a wire crew (or at worst learn to identify what their clients
are using), an informative presentation by a wire technician
(though calling him a "tech" seems to undervalue what he does)
about the basics such as those below as well as what Gigabit
can do for us, and debunking myths about Gigabit eithernet
(the next generation of wire (which is already here, and in
use)
- How to visually examine the existing cabling infrastructure.
- How to identify Cat3, Cat5 & Cat5E cable
- Why connection can't be made even though CAT5 cable is installed
- How the CAT5/5E testing and certification process works
- Demonstration of FLUKE CAT5E test equipment
- How to identify when new cabling or upgrade work is required
The basis for his presentation is:
Due to the recent flood of 1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet switches and
workstations coming on the market, there seems to be a lot of confusion
on the type of network cabling (infrastructure) this equipment was designed
to connect over.
